Axiom Space designs the most advanced spacesuit for Artemis III

‪@AxiomSpace‬  is developing the next-generation spacesuit for the ‪@NASA‬  Artemis III mission, which will return astronauts to the lunar surface for the first time since the Apollo era.

The AxEMU (Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit) builds on NASA's previous spacesuit prototype developments and will fit a broad range of crew members, accommodating at least 90% of the US male and female population. Featuring innovative joints for the arms and legs, the suit is designed for improved mobility and flexibility, allowing astronauts to walk, kneel, and work on the lunar surface.

The AxEMU also incorporates advanced life support systems, pressure garments, and avionics and is designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the lunar south pole, including extremely cold temperatures in permanently shadowed regions. 

Axiom Space has also formed a groundbreaking partnership with the Italian luxury fashion house ‪@Prada‬ representing a significant milestone in commercial involvement in space activities.  The partnership leverages Prada’s knowledge of carbon fibers, composites, and advanced materials and draws from its experience with the ‪@lunarossachallenge‬ yachting team. The white outer layer of the suit will reflect the bright sunlight and help regulate the suit’s internal temperature. It will also protect against radiation levels that are 150 times greater than one receives while on Earth (due to the lack of a substantial atmosphere and the magnetic field that our planet provides) and the punishing temperatures of the lunar surface that range widely from a frosty low of -208 degrees Fahrenheit to a blazing roast of +250 degrees Fahrenheit.
